Abbottabad by-polls today

PESHAWAR: Around 118,000 voters will exercise their right of franchise on Thursday in the by-election on the provincial assembly constituency of PK-45, Abbottabad-II.

Polling will commence from 8am and will continue without any break till 5pm. The concerned returning officer has already handed over the election material to the presiding officers.

In a press release issued here, the Provincial Election Commissioner Sono Khan Baloch said that a total of 109 polling stations, including 286 polling booths, had been set up for the by-election. He added that 109 presiding officers had been deputed for the purpose assisted by 286 assistant presiding officers and as many polling officers. “Training has already been imparted to the polling staff,” he maintained.

Mr Baloch said that around 66,899 were female voters and 51,866 male.

The provincial election commissioner informed that all the presiding officers had been assigned powers of first class magistrate for three days.
