Traffic policeman beaten up

ISLAMABAD: An official of Islamabad Traffic Police on Monday was allegedly beaten up by lawyers after he served a ticket on a motorcyclist for exceeding the limit of using a vehicle with an ‘applied for’ status.

The owner, who identified himself as the nephew of a lawyer, argued and refused to accept the ticket. The motorist also failed to produce any document after which the official confiscated the vehicle.

Later, three vehicles reached Chand-Tara Chowk and intercepted the police official who told them that the motorcycle had been shifted to Aabpara police station. Around a dozen people wearing black suits with white shirts disembarked from their cars and thrashed the policeman.

According to the police, the official was beaten ‘black and blue’ while the attackers ripped off his uniform and broke his teeth after which he fell unconscious.

A police team, notified by passersby, shifted the injured Head Constable Abid Ali to a hospital in critical condition.

The motorcycle owner was nominated in the FIR along with his uncle and other unidentified attackers, described as lawyers.
