Three new polio cases detected in Fata

PESHAWAR: Three new polio cases have been detected in different areas of Fata, DawnNews reported on Monday.

According to the Prime Minister’s Polio Cell, these three latest victims of polio virus belong to North and South Waziristan area of Fata.

Sources from Prime Minister’s Polio Cell added that almost 66 cases have been reported countrywide so far in the current year.

North Waziristan is considered a home to 160,000 unvaccinated children since August 2012.

Previously, six cases were found in other areas of Fata, which is directly governed by the federal government.

Nearly a week ago, two new polio cases were detected in the country.

Army also aide the campaigns by giving oral polio vaccine to children in North Waziristan since the Taliban banned vaccination there, according to sources.

The army has been holding free medical camps where children were being administered polio vaccines.
