City to host two group art shows

LAHORE: Two group exhibitions will be held in the city on May 5 and 12 featuring works by around 24 artists.

The shows will open separately at a government-run and a private art gallery.

The first show tilted Silence Please will open at Nairang Art Gallery, Habitat Flats, Jail Road. The show has been curated by Amna Husain.

The 10 participating artists include Zarah David, Seher Jalil, Minahil Hafeez, Sajid Ali Talpur, Anil Waghela, Minelle Gaya, Muhammad Umar, Muzzamil Khan, Sadia Farooq and Mariyam Hanif.

Amna Husain told Dawn: “I am an independent curator based in Lahore. I am curating an exhibition on the idea of abstraction in contemporary art of Pakistan. It will provide young artists a platform to display their work.”

She said the working title of the exhibition was Silence Please, which will include artists from different generations who have been dealing with abstraction as a theme in their works, including paintings, drawing, prints, sculptures and photographs.The other group show is titled Master Pieces and will open on May 12 at Alhamra Art Gallery, The Mall. The exhibition has been curated by Hira Mustafa.

National College of Arts Principal Prof Dr Murtaza Jaffri will inaugurate the exhibition. The participating artists include Amna Gull, Aneela Khurshid, Faheem Tufail, Ghufrana Naqvi, Hira Mustafa, Kiran Saleem, Masooma Ali, Mariyam Haif, Nida Ramzan, Nizam Dahri, Sofia Mairaj, Shaukat Ali, Sarah Yousaf, Romessa Khan, Yasir Azeem, Wajahat Ali and Wardah Bukhari.
