Gold falls

LONDON: Gold fell on Wednesday ahead of a Federal Reserve policy meeting and after a report showed that while the US economy barely grew in the first quarter.

Spot gold briefly trimmed losses to $1,297.40 an ounce. But the metal retreated again soon afterwards and was down 0.6pc at $1,288.20 an ounce at 1436 GMT. US gold futures for June delivery were down $8.10 an ounce at $1,288.

Silver was down 2pc at $19.07 an ounce, spot platinum was down 0.6pc at $1,417.24 an ounce, and spot palladium was down 0.1pc at $801.72 an ounce.—Reuters
