Man kills son, three other family members

LAHORE: A man killed four members of his family, including his son, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law and nephew, and injured another nephew at two locations in districts of Kasur and Lahore on Thursday.

Police said the motive behind the killings was a family dispute arising out of exchanged marriages within the family.

The suspect managed to escape from both crime scenes, a police official said.

According to Model Town SP Tariq Aziz, the preliminary investigation showed that Sarfraz, 50, of Mohalla Malkanwala, Mustafabad, Kasur, married his son Sultan with Sonia, 28, daughter of his younger brother Liaqat Ali, and his daughter with Shafqat, son of Liaqat.

Sonia could not adjust herself with her in-laws which resulted in everyday quarrels. The woman often used to move to her parents’ home, adjacent to the suspect’s home in the same village. Sonia again went to her father’s house after quarreling with her in-laws a couple of days back.

On Thursday, Sarfraz along with his sons, Sikandar and Sultan, went to bring her back. After she refused, Sarfraz opened fire, injuring Sonia, her brother Mobeen Raza, his own son Sikandar and fled the scene.

Other family members and villagers transported the injured to Arif Memorial Trust Hospital in Kahna around 11:30am. Doctors pronounced Sikandar and Sonia, a mother of two, dead after some time.

The SP said Sonia’s mother Razia Sultana, 42, and her another son Waqar Raza, 25, were present at the hospital when Sarfraz reached there and upon learning the death of his son opened fire yet again. The firing left Razia and Waqar dead while Mobeen, who was under treatment in the same room, saved his life by hiding himself under the bed. The suspect fled the scene.

A police investigator said raids were being conducted to arrest the accused. He said the police were still investigating whether the weapon was licensed. Sarfraz and his sons, Sultan and Sanwal, are now wanted in two cases registered with police stations of Lalyani and Kahna.

Meanwhile, Lalyani police shifted bodies of Sikandar and Sonia to Kasur DHQ Hospital and Kahna police brought the bodies of Razia and Waqar to Jinnah Hospital for autopsies.
