Man killed in ‘encounter’

PESHAWAR: A man was killed and another injured in an alleged encounter in Gulbahar area while a bomb blast partially damaged a house in Zaryab Colony on Thursday evening.

Sources said that two motorcyclists identified as Babar Hussain and Saad sustained bullet injuries and they were taken to Lady Reading Hospital where the later succumbed to his wounds.

An official said that details of the incident were yet to be ascertained, but according to a preliminary report the people had opened fire on police and in retaliatory firing two of them sustained injuries.

The second incident took place at Zaryab Colony where an improvised explosive device went off outside the residence of a lawyer, Malik Ashiq Hussain, which damaged a portion of the building.

However, no loss of life was reported. An official said that the blast also damaged a portion of a local mosque.
