‘Proclaimed offender’ found shot dead

HYDERABAD: A former Pakistan Peoples Party-Shaheed Bhutto activist, Shahid Qaimkhani, was found shot dead in the autaq (guest room) of his friend within the jurisdiction of the Sakhi Pir police station early Thursday morning.

Hyderabad police said Shahid Qaimkhani was a proclaimed offender and wanted to the police in 21 cases registered against him at the city’s 10 police stations.

There were marks of two bullet wounds on his neck and back, close to the cardiac region, according to the initial post-mortem findings.

Qaimkhani, 40, was son of Umaid Ali Qaimkhani, a Wapda union leader who was murdered in May 1990 in Laifabad.

Shahid Qaimkhani’s body was found in the autaq of his friend, Mujeeb Rind, in Bhains Piri. Mr Rind said the deceased had taken keys of the autaq from the watchman for a night stay. He quoted area people as telling him that Shahid was accompanying two other friends, Khair Mohammad aka Khairo and one Ballu.
