Plea against PP-183 results dismissed

LAHORE: An election tribunal on Wednesday dismissed an appeal challenging results of PP-183, Kasur, and observed that the appellant failed to produce convincing evidence of rigging in the constituency.

Chaudhry Ibrahim, a voter from the constituency, filed the appeal saying Sardar Asif Nakai of the PML-N was elected to the Punjab Assembly in the last general election. He alleged that Nakai committed massive rigging on the polling day as most of the votes cast in his favour were ‘bogus and fake’. He urged the tribunal to declare election in PP-183 null and void. The tribunal dismissed the plea.

In another case, the tribunal constituted a commission for recounting of votes in PP-175, Kasur. The tribunal had already ordered recounting in the constituency.

A retired sessions judge, Ghulam Husain, will head the commission and monitor recounting process on April 26 and 27.

A voter had filed the plea challenging victory of PML-N's Nadeem Sethi from the constituency.
