Court cancels Rangers FIR against hunters

MIRPURKHAS: The civil judge and judicial magistrate of Chhachhro taluka, Tharparkar district, discharged the FIR (10/2014) lodged by a Rangers inspector against five hunters at the Khensar police station following the April 7 firing incident.

The judge passed the order declaring the FIR ‘cancel class C’, after a special police team submitted its investigation report.

The complainant, Rangers Inspector Mohammad Abbas, had in his FIR accused the five hunters -- Mir Nasir Talpur, Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur, Mir Adil Talpur, Mir Sajjad Talpur and Hanif Rahimon -- of attempting to murder and creating hurdle in the discharge of government duty.

Inspector Abbas was a member of the five-men Rangers team that opened fire on a jeep carrying the hunters in the Chhachhro area on April 7 seriously wounding two of them. Mir Nasir later succumbed to his wounds in a Karachi hospital while Mir Mohammad Ali is recovering in a Hyderabad hospital.

A court later ordered registration of a murder case against the Rangers men — Mohammad Abbas, Karamat Hussain, Mazhar Hussain, Mohammad Khalil and Mohammad Razzaque -- who were eventually granted an interim bail before arrest.

Sources said that the special investigation team constituted by the Tharparkar SSP had visited the crime scene and the police station and recorded statements of the Rangers men and the surviving members of the hunters team.

In its report submitted in court, the probe team stated that there was no evidence of an encounter having taken place at the crime scene.
