Five injured in clash between two groups

RAWALPINDI: Five people were injured in a shoot-out between two groups in Dhoke Gangal on Sunday.

The members of one of the groups were close relatives of Taji Khokhar and the other group consisted of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) supporters.

A resident of the area told Dawn that the clash started when some people were returning from a breakfast hosted by a candidate contesting the upcoming local government elections.

Police said Mohammad Saleem, a retired employee of Wapda, along with his son, two nephews and a brother were standing outside their house when they were challenged by their rival Raja Babar and his supporters.

The two groups opened fire on each other resulting in the injuries to the five people.

The injured were identified as Mohammad Yasin, his son Sheraz Yasin, Mohammad Saleem and Mohammad Qaiser. They were cousins of Taji Khokhar. Besides, Raja Babar also sustained bullet injuries.

The injured were taken to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where they were stated to be out of danger.

Police Sub-Inspector Raja Saeed said a few days back Raja Babar’s son Raja Faizan was beaten by his rivals.
