Taliban kidnap estate agent

RAWALPINDI: An estate agent was kidnapped by militants belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan who have demanded Rs50 million for his release, police said.

Rafiullah, who belonged to Hangu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and lived with his family in Wah Sadar area of Rawalpindi, went missing after he left home in his car on Friday. His brother Ajmal Khan told police he had mounted a search for Rafiullah after attempts to contact him on his mobile phone proved futile. He said Rafiullah’s car was found abandoned near Hangu.

On Saturday, Ajmal Khan said, he received a phone call from a man identifying himself as a member of the TTP. The caller said Rafiullah was in their captivity and demanded Rs50m for his release.

A police official confirmed the kidnapping incident and said police were trying to find the whereabouts of Rafiullah and arrest the kidnappers. Last week, a boy kidnapped from Sadiqabad was freed by the kidnappers after getting Rs1.2m in ransom.
