Capital police, Elite Force start joint patrolling

ISLAMABAD: The capital police along with personnel of Punjab Elite Force started joint patrolling at eight spots on Saturday, police said.

A team of eight personnel – five from Elite Force, two commandos of capital police and an official of the area police station – are patrolling an area in the vehicles of Punjab Elite Force.

The areas which the teams are patrolling are Secretariat Chowk-Marriott Hotel-ISI installation, Radio Pakistan-Nadra Headquarters-Serena Hotel, Shams Gate-Bari Imam, Adventure Inn on Murree Road-Dhokri Chowk, Faizabad-Zero Point, Embassy Chowk on Jinnah Avenue-China Chowk, Iqbal Town on Expressway-Koral and Ninth Avenue-Pirwadhai.

Meanwhile, Rangers are yet to start patrolling or participating in joint security arrangements as their demands have still not been met. The Rangers had demanded 20 vehicles and fuel to patrol various parts of the city.

An official said Rs100 million were released by the interior ministry to purchase vehicles.

However, colour of vehicles became an issue for the Rangers as only blue and white were available.

Rangers do not want to use blue colour as it was under the use of Islamabad police.

The Rangers have also demanded uniform and withdrawal from Margalla Hills to participate in the joint security operations, the official said. Besides they also wanted police power as had been given to them in Karachi.
