CM takes notice of potato price hike

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of increase in the price of potato and directed the authorities concerned to bring it at a reasonable level.

Presiding over the provincial price control committee here on Saturday, the chief minister said the provision of relief to the people and sale of quality essential items at reasonable rates was the responsibility of the departments concerned. He said the cabinet committee would have to play its role effectively for providing daily essential items at affordable price to the people.

The chief minister said the process of auction in vegetable markets should be monitored through CCTV cameras. He said the live coverage of the process of auction in vegetable markets should be arranged through a local TV channel for the awareness of the people.

Mr Shahbaz directed that cleanliness arrangements in vegetable markets should also be monitored through CCTV cameras whereas a system should be evolved for the publicity of essential items’ rates through a website.

The chief minister said the absence of officers during the auction process in vegetable markets would not be tolerated. He said the weight of 100 gram Roti should be 100 gram and action should be taken against those selling less weight roti.
