Woman alleges gang-rape

VEHARI: A woman, of Chak 261-EB of Burewala, alleged on Thursday that she had been gang-raped by four people for 25 days.

The 35-year-old alleged gang-rape victim ‘N’ told Dawn by phone that 25 days back four people of the area gang-raped her at her house and later abducted her.

During the three weeks in captivity, she was kept at Sadiq Town, Dera Jamil, Chichawattni-bypass and Dera Azhar. She said the rapists recorded a footage of the assault on a mobile phone and threatened to kill her husband and two children if she reported the matter to police or relatives.

She said she fled the captivity one night when her tormentors were asleep at Dera Azhar.

She alleged that the rapists tried to blackmail her through the footage. Fearing more exploitation, her family decided to report the matter to police.

Burewala Sadar police registered a case against the four people under sections 496, and 376(1) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Station House Officer Aslam Cheema said that the alleged gang-rape victim’s husband is a schoolteacher.

Burewala Assistant Superintendent of Police Asif Ahmed told Dawn that nominated people in the case had been arrested and their DNA samples sent to the lab.

Police were after the two other people still at large. He said police had not found any footage of the assault.

Sub-Inspector M Anwar said a medical report confirmed that the woman had been gang-raped. He claimed the remaining two accused had secured pre-arrest bail.
