Balochistan situation has deteriorated, says BNP-M

QUETTA: The chairman of the organising committee of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini, has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has failed to honour his commitment to resolve the Balochistan issue according to the wishes of Baloch people.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, he said that BNP-M leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal and the prime minister had discussed the Balochistan issue at a meeting and the premier had assured Mr Mengal that the issue would be resolved in a political and peaceful way.

Dr Jamaldini regretted that during the nine months of the PML-N government, no change had been witnessed in conditions prevailing in the province. Rather, he said, the situation had deteriorated.

He said they had expected that Mr Sharif and Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch would resolve the Balochistan issue but their performance had caused disappointment.

He said if the federal and provincial governments could not satisfy the BNP-M leadership, how they could be able to engage militants in negotiations.

He said “hidden” elements wanted to isolate the BNP-M, adding that party workers were being harassed and attacked in different areas of the province. “Recently some activists have been killed in targeted attacks in Khuzdar, Panjgur and Nasirabad areas.”

Mr Jamaldini said public meetings would be held in different areas to mobilise masses to protect the party struggling for the rights of Baloch people.
