Traders plan sit-in on Metro track

LAHORE: The Ferozepur Road Traders Association has announced a sit-in on Metro Bus route at Chungi Amar Sidhu on Friday for not giving compensation to a large number of traders who have been displaced during the road extension project.

According to a press release, a senior representative of the association, Bilal Butt, said the Punjab government had demolished shops and markets on both sides of Ferozpur Road in order to construct flyovers.

He said more than 6,000 traders, who were running their business by taking shops on rent, have been affected.

He said the government announced compensation for landlords of commercial properties but no step was taken so far to accommodate the tenants.

“Now these traders, their children and women are ready to take to the street,” he said and added that the affected traders would block the Metro Bus on coming Friday.
