Bomb defused; fleeing prisoner held in Lakki

LAKKI MARWAT: In two separate actions on Sunday, police foiled a terror bid by defusing an explosive device in Gandi area near Naurang town, and arrested a runaway prisoner of Dera Ismail Khan jail in Jabukhjel region on Sunday.

An official said that local people informed police that a suspected material was lying along the tube-well owned by a local JUI-F leader, Asmatullah Khan. “Upon that law enforcers rushed to the place and found that a mine connected with explosives and a hand grenade was lying there,” he maintained.

He said that personnel of bomb disposal squad were called to defuse the explosive device.

Separately, another police party of Ghaznikhel police station raided a suspected hideout of criminals and arrested a fleeing prisoner, Rehmatullah.

The official said Rehmatullah, who was on death row, had escaped D.I. Khan jail when militants attacked the compound in July, last year. He said that police seized a pistol and bullets from him and registered a case against him. The official said the police had also arrested another fleeing prisoner of the Dera jail identified as Jamedar from Tajori town, last week.

Meanwhile, police arrested over a dozen gamblers and seized game birds from them in Lakki city.

During a surprise raid a police party led by ASI Asmatullah Khan found 14 people engaged in the ugly practice of betting on quails’ fight,” said an official.
