Saving a village

I HAIL from the Nauranga village, Mianwali district. It is situated between the Jinnah Barrage and the Chashma Barrage. It was badly affected by floods in 2010, besides leading to continuous heavy erosion.

Ninety-five per cent of the village is under the River Indus and is fast losing the remaining five per cent of its identity.

The construction of an embankment was the only way to save thousands of hectares of fertile agricultural land from destruction but no attention has been given by the Punjab government on the issue so far.

The people of the region have relocated to various places or to their relatives and are living under extremely miserable conditions.

I urge the authorities concerned to pay immediate attention to save the village from total destruction.
