AIOU registrar removed, sent on forced leave

ISLAMABAD: An additional registrar of the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) ended up nursing his wounds at the university hospital on Monday after the university employees subjected him to torture.

On the other hand new management of the AIOU removed registrar of the university and sent him on forced leave while former vice chancellor Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi went on two weeks leave to avoid any mishap, Dawn has learnt.

It is pertinent to mention that employees and management of the university had bitter relations for four years.

On Monday, the employees announced that they would celebrate the removal of Dr Sangi and not allow Mohammad Bashir Chaudhry to work as registrar of the university.

Former VC Dr Sangi’s ceased to work as VC after the expiry of his four-year contract on March 21.

As a result, the ministry appointed Prof. Dr. Ali Asghar Chishti as acting vice chancellor who took charge on March 22.

Dr Sangi was instructed to join as dean of computer department because he was a fulltime employee of the university.

An employee of university requesting not to be identified said the employees sent SMSs to each other that registrar will be removed by force due to which Mohammad Bashir Chaudhry did not turn up on Monday.

“Employees gathered outside the office of Additional Registrar Daud Khattak, the supporter of former VC, and badly tortured him. Mr Khattak, a diabetic and blood pressure patient, was admitted to the university hospital,” he said.

“Meanwhile employees started demanding appointment of new registrar of the university,” he said.

An official press releases issued from AIOU says that Prof. Dr. Nowshad Khan has taken over the charge of Registrar AIOU.

Mohammad Bashir Chahdhry has been transferred to work as Director Students Affairs.

“The management has sent Mr Bashir on forced leave. Moreover Dr Sangi, who has to join as Dean of Computer Department, has also informed the management that he will not come to the university because of problem of pollen allergy,” he said.
