BAHAWALPUR: The Punjab government has released Rs10 million for the repair of water supply lines in Cholistan.

This was stated by Cholistan Development Authority Managing Director Aftab Ahmed Peerzada on Wednesday during the opening of a free medical camp for people and livestock at Derawar, about 70kms from here.

According to the MD, the government released the amount on his demand during a meeting in Lahore on Tuesday.

Currently four water supply pipelines measuring 257 kilometres connect village 111/DNB to Nawankot (87km), village 108/DD to Khari (85km), Khari to Tofana (47km) and Motanwala to Chauri (38km).

He said the supply lines needed repair since long as people had complained of leakage at a number of points in the desert.

Peerzada said the campaign for vaccination of animals and people had been intensified and mobile veterinary dispensaries were provided at more than 10 places.

The medical camp was inaugurated by Commissioner Asdullah Khan who claimed that unlike Thar, human life in Cholistan was normal. “However, the administration is ready to meet any emergency situation.”
