Robbers arrested

GUJRAT: Police claimed on Wednesday to have busted two gangs of inter-district robbers besides recovering cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs3 million.

District Police Officer Rai Ijaz Ahmed told reporters that the city circle police had arrested the six robbers of two gangs -- Shabbir alias Malinga gang and Riaz alias Haji gang -- that had committed house robberies in city area around three to four months ago.

The gangs had also committed robberies in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Jhelum and Mandi Bahauddin.

He said the gangs were wanted in at least 36 cases in eight districts of Punjab.

The DPO claimed the gangs had looted the house of senior medical practitioner Dr Iqbal and two traders of Jalal Cheema Colony.
