Another ASWJ activist shot dead

RAWALPINDI: An activist of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was killed in an ambush in Muhammadi Colony, Pirwadhai on Tuesday night, police said.

This was the second attack on an ASWJ worker in less than 24 hours as on Monday night a local leader of the organisation was killed and two others were injured near Islamabad Expressway.

Abu Bakar Habib, 19, a student activist of ASWJ and president of Khyban-i-Sir Syed unit, was driving his car when two motorbike riders opened fire on him near Cheema Plaza, Pirwadhai.

Police said some passers-by spotted him lying injured in the driving seat of the car. Later they shifted him to the Holy Family Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

According to a doctor, the victim, who suffered four bullets fired from close range, claimed his life on the spot.

When contacted the city police officer Umar Akhtar Hayat Laleka confirmed that a local worker of ASWJ was shot dead.

He said the police had launched a search for the attackers as extra police had been deployed at exit and entry points in the city.

Mohammad Sohail Moavia, information secretary of the Rawalpindi chapter of the ASWJ, was killed and two activists were injured in an ambush near Islamabad expressway on Monday night.

After the killing of Abu Bakar, a large number of ASWJ activists gathered at the Holy Family Hospital and staged a protest against the killing. As the protest started, police were called to avert any untoward situation.
