GB culture showcased

RAWALPINDI: Students from Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) enthralled audience through their folk songs and dances, on Sunday, at a cultural show jointly organised by the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) and the Institute for Promotion of Pamiri Arts and Culture.

The event was held to mark International Women’s Day.

The performers presented a drama to highlight the problems being faced by women of the area. They also explained the daily routine of the women and how they celebrated small events through dances and songs.

Stalls were also established to exhibit and sell embroidery pieces, traditional caps, jewellery and other clothing items from Gilgit-Baltistan.

RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed told Dawn that the basic aim of the event was to create awareness of the struggle of women in the northern areas of the country.

He said artisans from Gilgit Baltistan were also invited to promote their work.
