How it happened

  • Terrorists enter the court premises from different sides at around 8:50am

  • They open fire at the courtrooms of civil judges, lawyers’ chambers as well as passersby

  • Less than 10 minutes later, SHO Margalla rushes towards the court with his gunman and calls for backup

  • Policemen alongwith two officials of Anti-Terrorism Squad reach the court and confront a terrorist which leads to an exchange of fire. The terrorist manages to push back the police

  • Shortly after the police shoot a terrorist, who then detonates his suicide jacket, his fellow attackers enter the courtroom of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Rafaqat Awan. One of them chases the judge and shoots him in his chamber

  • A few minutes later, a police team reaches the courtroom and corners an attacker, who then sets off his suicide jacket

  • At around 9:40am, the remaining terrorists manage to escape from the district courts

This sequence of events is based on initial police investigations and they may change in coming days as the evidence is examined.
