KPOGCL’s board member resigns

PESHAWAR: Mohsin Aziz, a Peshawar industrialist, has resigned from the board of directors of the provincial public sector Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Oil and Gas Company Limited (KPOGCL), according to official sources.

Mr Aziz, said a provincial government official, resigned after his appointment came under discussion at the board’s last meeting held a couple of weeks back.

“Since I am also a member of the board of directors of another oil and gas sector company, I decided to step down from the provincial government’s oil and gas company,” said Mr Aziz, when reached over the phone late on Monday night.

His appointment to the board, according to sources, came under discussion at the last held meeting of the KPOGCL’s board of directors after someone pointed out that Mr Aziz was in conflict of interest since he sat on the boards of directors of two companies belonging to the same sector.

The industrialist from Peshawar, who also remained the president of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association more than once, said that he decided to step down as he found himself in conflict of interest.

“I thought myself and told the board in its last meeting about the same,” said Mr Aziz, when contacted. He said he had presided over the PPL’s Board meetings more than once and thought it would be in conflict of interest if he continued at the KPOGCL’s board as well.

According to official sources, Mr Aziz forwarded his resignation to the provincial government informing it about his inability to continue serving on the KPOGCL board. As a result, the provincial government would need to appoint a new member to the Board in case if it decided to accept Mr Aziz’s resignation.
