PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan party chief Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has demanded formation of a commission to probe blocking of Nato supplies by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

Criticising the provincial government, he said that PTI believed only in hollow slogans without thinking about the legal aspects.

“We had already described it illegal and now the court also gave verdict against blocking of the supplies. It affected the country’s economy and many Pakhtuns suffered financially which means that the government is not sincere to resolve our problems,” Mr Sherpao said.

He was addressing a condolence reference, held at Peshawar Press Club on Sunday to pay tributes to QWP leader Advocate Adalat Khan, who was killed in a blast in Buner on Feb 22.

Former MPA Advocate Saleem Khan, Bilal Durrani, Amanullah Khan and QWP spokesperson Hashim Babar also spoke on the occasion.

Other central leaders of QWP including former senior minister Sikandar Sherpao, Haji Ghufran, and former MPA Nasreen Khattak also participated in the condolence reference.

Mr Sherpao said that the incidents of targeted killings were on the rise but the government was unable to arrest the attackers. Pakhtuns should join hands to douse the fire of terrorism on their soil, he added.

He suggested strengthening of national unity to make joint efforts for restoration of peace, development and averting threats.

Welcoming the Taliban’s decision of ceasefire, the QWP chief said that the nation expected restoration of durable peace. Peace was basic need for development and it was duty of the government to take all the stakeholders into confidence regarding future planning, he said.

Mr Sherpao said that in case of attack on security forces, immediate action was taken against the assailants but no one was there to protect common people. He said that even the heirs of Adalat Khan were not compensated by the government. He said that people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were ignored and left at the mercy of terrorists.

The QWP chairman said that besides attacking the leaders of different parties, terrorists were blowing up educational institutions, worship places and shrines but none of the successive governments was serious to uproot the menace.

Mr Sherpao said that bloodshed was not fate of Pakhtuns but the crisis was result of the flawed policies of the rulers. He said that provincial government had formed peace bodies against terrorists but then abandoned the volunteers.

He said that both Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan People’s Party didn’t pay any attention to the development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The leadership of both the parities didn’t spare time to listen to the people of the province and resolve their problems.

Hashim Babar also criticised the provincial government and held Chief Minister Pervez Khattak responsible for the increasing problems of Pakhtuns. He said that PTI should replace the chief minister if it was sincere to work for the welfare of people. —Bureau Report
