Five killed in Karachi violence

KARACHI: At least five people were killed in different incidents of violence in Karachi on Sunday, DawnNews reported.

Two people were killed and two others were wounded during a clash between two gang-war groups in Karachi’s Lyari area.

The victims were shifted to Civil Hospital where an emergency was imposed.

A large contingent of police personnel reached the site of incident; however the situation was still tense.

Meanwhile, one person was killed as a result of firing in Karachi’s Mauripur area whereas a body bearing torture marks was recovered from the same locality.

Separately, a body with a slit throat was recovered from an empty house in Surjani Town’s Khuda ki Basti area.

Meanwhile, the East Zone police launched a crackdown and arrested four suspected land grabbers, including their leader.

Moreover, the police also recovered huge amount of arms and ammunition from the suspects.

Karachi is home to multiple conflicts that frequently turn violent, including gang wars and ethnic and political rivalries. Militants are said to use the city as a hiding place and a source of funds obtained through bank heists, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
