Rs7.5m for protection wall of Qila Kuhna Qasim Bagh

MULTAN: A wall to protect the northern part of the historical Qila Kuhna Qasim Bagh will be constructed at a cost of Rs7.5 million.

District Coordination Officer Zahid Saleem Gondal said this while talking to under-training officers of the Civil Service Academy here on Saturday.

The DCO said the fort was being restored to its original condition and the wall would be constructed on Water Works Road side.

He said the wall was being constructed to avert the collapse of old walls and mud of the fort because of rains while plantation of trees at the fort was also a part of the project.

Mr Gondal said the landscaping was under progress while city’s historical gates would also be restored and beatified to bring back their grandeur. He said a plan was being prepared to convert the historical building of clock tower into a museum and keep illuminating it at night hours. He said the clock was being repaired.

The DCO said a plan to preserve walled city buildings, a historical treasure of architecture, was being forwarded to the provincial government for approval.

He said the district government was also concentrating on new Multan and a beautification work on Vehari Chowk, Double Phattak Flyover and Pul Mauj Darya was under progress in this regard.
