Landmine blast kills woman in Dera Bugti, wounds seven

QUETTA: A landmine blast killed one woman and injured seven others in Balochistan's volatile Dera Bugti district on Sunday morning, officials said.

A levies official who requested anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to media, told Dawn.com that a pick up carrying seven women and a male for a wedding party hit a landmine in Dera Bugti's Zain Koh area.

"When the vehicle hit the land mine, there was huge blast", he said.

The official further said one woman was killed on the spot, adding that "All six women and a male were seriously injured in the blast."

All injured were shifted to Sui hospital for medical treatment.

The blast also damaged the vehicle.

The levies official stated that unknown miscreants had planted the land mine on the road side.

There was no claim of responsibility for the blast.

Dera Bugti, Balochistan's resource-rich and the least developed district has remained under the grip of violence for over a decade.

Violent attacks and bomb explosions in Dera Bugti have claimed scores of human lives.
