Textile mills to get gas in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab’s textile mills will start getting six-hour gas and 18-hour electricity supply from Feb 21.

“The timely intervention by the government will secure jobs of hundreds and thousands of textile workers and fetch $10 million per day exports for the country,” said All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) Punjab Chairman S M Tanveer at a news conference on Wednesday.

Gas supply to the Punjab textile mills was severed on Feb 16 when rains brought down mercury. Blowing up of main gas pipelines also decreased supply.

This time too, the government acted swiftly and managed available resources properly and wisely,” said Mr Tanveer.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in a statement hailed the decission and said that restoration of gas supply would help the manufacturing sector to avail benefits of GSP Plus scheme.
