Firing incidents kill nine in Karachi: police

KARACHI: At least nine people were killed Tuesday in separate incidents of firing across Karachi as police and Rangers personnel continued targeted operations in different areas of the metropolis.

Police said four bodies were recovered from Surjani Town area who were identified as Sami ul Haqq, Hafeez, Muhammad Faisal. The fourth one could not be identified.

All four persons belonged to a banned organisation, the police sources said.

Separately, two people were shot dead by unknown gunmen in Orangi Town area.

Two other people were killed by firing in Gulistan e Johar and Korangi Mehran Town. Another corpse was found in Shah Faisal Colony river. Police said the victim suffered bullet wounds.

Also on Tuesday, the bomb disposal squad defused a five-kilogram home-made bomb in the parking area of a private TV channel.

Meanwhile, Rangers and police personnel continued their targeted operations across the city and rounded 23 suspects.

The operation was carried out in Gulshan e Iqbal, Dhobi Ghat, Faqeer Goth , Kausar Town, Frontier Colony, Qaumabad, Gulshan-e-Buner, Shanti Nagar, Lyari and other areas.

According to a Rangers spokesman, a large amount of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the suspect.
