Woman dies during protest demo

KASUR: An elderly woman died of cardiac arrest on Sunday during a protest on the Gandasingh Road against a federal government law officer for allegedly interfering in a police matter to favour his relative.

The deceased was identified as Khursheed Bibi.

Dozens of villagers, including women, staged the protest demonstration against Javed Kasuri advocate and blocked the road near village Matta.

A row had erupted between families of Muhammad Boota and Muhammad Yasir a few days back when the twine of a kite being flown by the boys of the former’s family had entangled around the latter as he was on his way to Kasur.

The two parties had a fight, leaving around 10 persons on both sides injured.

Boota’s family alleged that when they went to Gandasingh police to report the matter, the tables were turned against them as Kasuri, a relative of Yasir, had influenced police.

As a protest, Boota’s family gathered on the Gandasingh Road and blocked the traffic for about one hour by burning tyres on it. During the demonstration, Khursheed Bibi suffered a heart attack and she died before reaching hospital.

When contacted, Deputy Attorney General Muhammad Javed Kasuri said some mischievous elements of the opposite group in the district bar and local government elections were behind the whole incident.

He said his relative Yasir had not yet submitted an application with the police so his (Kasuri) intervention was out of question.
