Embezzlement of PTI funds

KARACHI: Two disgruntled leaders of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday excoriated their fellow party men for ‘embezzling millions of dollars of party funds’ and hijacked the party and its leader Imran Khan to safeguard their vested interests.

“This group has embezzled millions of dollars, which the party’s overseas organisation had generated over the years,” said Mehboob Aslam, who introduced himself as part of PTI’s overseas cadres at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club. He was accompanied by one Hafiz Fazal Karim.

They said the overseas PTI workers had donated billions of rupees to the party since its inception. Besides, they contributed over $10 million dollars for electioneering last year, they added. “The amount has not been spent on election campaign and slipped into the accounts of some individuals who enjoy top positions in the party,” alleged Mr Aslam.

They, however, exonerated PTI chief Imran Khan, who, they said, ‘is not corrupt and has a transparent character’.

The PTI, however, ruled out the allegations made in the press conference. The party believed the allegations levelled had been made by those who joined the PTI only for personal gains but they could not achieve their targets. “They have nothing to do with PTI ideology and ambitions,” said PTI media coordinator Jamal Siddiqi.
