Suspects arrested from Tarnol

ISLAMABAD: Two suspects described as ‘potential terrorists’ were arrested by the police during a raid in the capital’s suburbs on Wednesday.

According to the police, the arrest was made during a raid at Ittefaq Colony in Tarnol.

The suspects were identified as natives of Katlang in Mardan and Bajaur Agency and had been living in the colony since 2007.

During the raid the police also seized 5kg explosives. However there were no detonators.

The police said the affiliation of the suspects with any banned militant outfit is yet to be established. Besides “they are not experts in making bomb”.

The suspects were experimenting on blowing up the explosive without using detonators, and had carried out two unsuccessful experiments.

The father of one suspect was a retired hawldar of Frontier Constabulary, and was now a labourer with a contractor.

During interrogation one of the suspects told police that they were experimenting on a new method of carrying out explosions and used it at a worship place in Tarnol.

However, his accomplice gave a contradictory statement and said they were trying to make explosives to uproot trees and later sell them for money, the police said.
