Balochistan to get $34m for education plan

ISLAMABAD: The Balochistan government will receive $34 million by June this year under the ‘Global Partnership for Education’ (GPE) programme. The grant will be used for implementing the provincial education sector plan up to 2017.

According to a World Bank document copy of which is available with Dawn, the plan has been prepared after a comprehensive review of challenges, issues and opportunities and has already been approved by the provincial government. It aims to increase school enrolment with focus on girls’ participation and develop mechanisms to improve quality of school management.

Pakistan is a member of the GPE which consists of developing and donor countries and agencies, civil society groups, multilateral organisations and the private sector, focusing on accelerating progress towards achieving the ‘Education for All’ goals. The GPE has already allocated the indicative grant for the education sector plan and the World Bank has shown its willingness to supervise the grant.
