Vigil held for slain media workers

ISLAMABAD: Journalists in the federal capital on Sunday held a vigil for the three media workers who were killed in Karachi on January 17.

Talking to the participants of the vigil, National Press Club president Shahryar Khan said the deadline to arrest the culprits passed on Sunday but the government did not take any action against the killers.

He said though Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had formed a committee in this regard, its members did not bother to contact any media association.

President RIUJ Ali Raza Alvi said although the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had accepted the responsibility for the killings, the journalist community felt that the government of Sindh was responsible for the incident because it did not provide security to the mediapersons.

The participants demanded compensation for the victims equal to those paid to army and police personnel killed in the line of duty. They also announced that a protest would be held in front of parliament house on Monday.
