Rs3bn weather forecast project

LAHORE: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has designed a Rs3 billion Japan-funded specialised medium range weather forecasting project.

According to officials on Wednesday, the four-year project, after its completion, would help the PMD make precise weather forecasts leading to taking preventive measures, if necessary, to avert loss of life and property.

“The project is being fully funded by Japan. Its PC-I has been submitted to the federal government and it is likely to be approved by Executive Committee of the National Economic Council shortly,” an official said.

According to him, under the project the existing weather radar in Islamabad which was financed by Japan as grant-in-aid in 1999 will be replaced, while two wind profilers will also be installed in Islamabad and Multan.
