TV producer, relatives shot at and injured

KARACHI: A senior media person, two of his sons and a cousin were shot at and wounded on Tuesday night near NIPA roundabout.

They said that senior producer of Samaa TV, Azhar Abbas, 45 – along with his sons Daniyal Abbas, 12, and Daim Abbas, 14, and cousin Syed Hyder, 35 – was riding a motorcycle when attacked by armed motorcyclists near NIPA chowk.

“They were returning after taking part in Chehlum procession,” said DIG East Zone, Munir Ahmad Shaikh, adding that it was a targeted attack. He said Azhar sustained four bullet wounds on different parts of his body and was being operated upon at a private hospital.

One of the bullets pierced through his neck, he added.

Meanwhile, the death of a teenaged passer-by, Naseebullah, during a clash between two groups over possession of union office in Chapel Garden, Abul Hasan Ispahani Road, sparked a protest by his relatives, said Malir SSP Imran Shaukat. The suspects, he added, had been detained.
