Naib nazim elections rejected

KHAIRPUR, Dec 29: Former District Nazim Nafisa Shah and an ADP candidate for Khairpur naib nazim, Abdul Qayoom Shaikh, have alleged that their candidates and supporters were harassed during the recent naib nazim elections. They were talking to reporters here on Thursday.

The PPP-backed Awam Dost Panel leaders said the elections were not fair and free.

They said that show of hands was a violation of democratic norms.

The ADP leaders said Sindh was experiencing political and economic crisis and the government raised the issue of Kalabagh dam instead of providing relief to suffering people.

They said there was an acute shortage of water in Sindh and many branches and small canals were lying dry for the last 10 to 15 years. In such a situation, construction of the Kalabagh dam was tantamount to destroy agricultural economy of Sindh, the PPP leaders alleged.

They said the water of Indus river would be stolen if canals were drawn out from the Kalabagh dam.
