Sunnis, Shias urged to offer Friday prayers together

QUETTA, Nov 9: Sunni and Shia ulema here have appealed to members of their communities to offer Friday prayers together on Yaum-i-Ashur and ensure peaceful passage of Ashura processions to frustrate the designs of conspirators who wanted to divide the Ummah.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, Maulana Qari Abdur Rehman, Dr Attaur Rehman, Allama Juma Asadi, Syed Daud Agha and Maulana Abdul Wahid said the Yaum-i-Ashur taught Muslims to exercise patience as a way of paying tribute to the martyrs of Karbala who refused to compromise on principles.

They said: “We have agreed that Juma prayers should be offered between 1pm and 1.30pm in the mosques on the routes of Ashura processions so that the processions may continue their journeys to Imambargahs.”

They urged people of both the sects to cooperate to remove misunderstandings between Sunnis and Shias, adding that unity among Muslims was the need of the hour.—Correspondent
