Police clueless about man attacking women

SAHIWAL, Oct 28: Chichawatni City police are clueless in tracing an unknown “abnormal” young man who is attacking young women at deserted streets with some kind of a knife or blade.

Reports are doing the rounds in the town that the man had so far injured 10-12 women but only two women have lodged FIRs under Section 324 with the police.

Chichwatni City SHO Tahir Ijaz confirmed two cases during the last 48 hours.

The administration and Markazi Anjuman Tajrain, Chichawatni, have announced Rs100,000 each reward for the person who would disclose the identity or pass any information about the unknown attacker. The DPO had promised Rs50,000.

DSP Malik Ijaz said rumours of such attacks were heard some two weeks ago and the police had circumstantial evidence of four such cases.

He said during the last two days two women -- Mrs Rashida and Ms Maria – visited the City police station saying they had been hurt by a young man with some sharp weapon. Both sustained minor injuries at arm and abdomen.

The SHO said there wasn’t any kind of pattern in attacks that could suggest that the assailant was targeting an age group of women or those who did not observe purdah.
