Rs245 bln approved for seven development projects

ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) here on Monday approved seven development projects worth Rs245 billion, DawnNews reported.

The meeting of CDWP was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms, Ahsan Iqbal and was attended by the sponsoring agencies and the representatives from provincial governments and special areas.

The committee approved seven development projects costing Rs245 billion with foreign exchange component of Rs19 billion.

Approved projects were related to energy, water resources, manpower, higher education, governance, science & technology and social welfare sectors.

Prime Minister’s youth uplift package, comprising of six individual projects including the laptop scheme, was among the approved development projects.

In the energy sector, two power generation projects of 600 MW each in Jamshoro were included. The Rs220 billion projects will use blends of sub bituminous coal and domestic lignite costing.

Under the PM’s laptop scheme, annually 150,000 laptops will be distributed among the students of public sector universities securing 60 per cent or above marks.
