Woman dies in IED attack on Karachi clinic

KARACHI, Oct 13: A woman was killed and six people were wounded in an IED attack on a maternity home in Landhi area on Sunday over non-payment of extortion, according to police and hospital officials.

Miscreants threw the improvised explosive device into the maternity home adjacent to Zain Medical Store in Muzaffarabad Colony, injuring seven women and children, according to SDPO Quaidabad Ghulam Nabi Wago. The wounded were taken to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre where one of the women was pronounced dead.

Three children are among the injured, said Dr Seemin Jamali, head of the JPMC’s emergency department.

The dead was identified as Ruby, 25, and the wounded included her mother Tajunisa, 45; Gulnaz, 32; Eman, 2; Adeel, 3; Tayab, 7; and Zeeshan, 16.

Dr Jamali said the condition of the wounded was out of danger, adding that children had been shifted to the National Institute of Child Health.
