KARACHI, Oct 11: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for implementation of a wind power project was signed here between the Sindh government and a Turkish company at a ceremony held at the CM House on Friday.

Secretary of the energy department Agha Wasif Abbas signed the document on behalf of the government of Sindh while Mehmet Orhan Unalan, project development director of the STFA Yatirim holding A-S, signed it on behalf of the Turkish company.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali shah, adviser to the CM on finance Sayed Murad Ali Shah, consul general of Turkey in Karachi Murat-M Onart, vice chairman of the Turkey-Pak Business Council M. Riza Arsan and other diplomats and officers of the Sindh government attended the ceremony.

According to the MoU, the company will conduct studies to set up wind masts at the site identified by it for survey within two months and the wind power project’s implementation schedule to be notified.

After the survey the company will set up a wind power generation project of the size equal to maximum wind potential available at the site.

The Sindh government will facilitate the company in identifying acceptable sites for the wind study and provide the requisite piece of land for establishing wind masts. The government will hand over the land to the company as per the government existing policy. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that Sindh was the only province blessed with a powerful wind corridor in Pakistan where wind blows throughout the year.

He said in order to exploit this natural source of energy the government was providing all facilities to investors under a one-window operation.

He stressed the need for implementation of the project at the earliest so that the people of Sindh could be benefit from it.

The vice chairman of the Turkey-Pakistan Business Council, representing STFA, here at the ceremony, said that the investing companies of this country had contributed a lot in the development projects in Pakistan.

He said that Turkish businessmen were very much interested in doing business and make investment here as they enjoyed good relations with the government and organisations in the private sector.

This wind project would be considered a milestone and would encourage other Turkish entrepreneurs for further investment in Sindh, he added.
