MRAP vehicles
THE recent news items have highlighted the growing menace of improvised explosive devices. We are losing more and more soldiers to ambushes and IEDs. Nato forces faced similar problems in Afghanistan and Iraq.
In response, they developed and deployed mine-resistant ambush-proof (MRAP) vehicles. These vehicles helped to cut down the fatalities for the Nato forces. As the Nato forces plan their exit from Afghanistan, hundreds, if not thousands, of MRAPs are being scrapped because they are declared surplus. Some are being shipped back to the US through Pakistan. I do not know where the disconnect is: maybe Nato is not ready to give these vehicles because of having poor relations with Pakistan. KHALID SINDHU
