PM chairs meeting on country's law and order

RAIWIND: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is chairing a meeting on Saturday (today) to review the law and order situation of the country at his residence in Raiwind, DawnNews reported.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other senior government and military officials are attending the meeting.

The meeting was scheduled to undertake a review of the country’s law and order situation and discuss matters related to curbing lawlessness and violence in the province of Balochistan and the country’s economic capital Karachi among other issues. It is also scheduled to brief the heads of the country’s intelligence agencies.

Moreover, the meeting will also discuss the agenda of the All Parties Conference (APC) which has been called for September 9. The conference is aimed at evolving consensus on a counter-terrorism strategy as well as the law and order situation of Karachi.

The most important part of the APC, according to a government source, would be a no holds barred briefing by the military establishment before politicians start their deliberations on how to counter both internal and external security threats to the country.
