Nanbais call off strike

PESHAWAR, Sept 5: The nanbais in Peshawar and Charsadda called off their strike and opened tandoors (ovens) after successful negotiations with administration officials on Thursday. According to an official, the nanbais (bakers) will sell a single roti (bread) weighing 120 grams at Rs6 and there will be ban on sale of 240 grams roti. He said that in consultation with the nanbais the administration would review the decision after Sept 10 and revise the price of roti, but till then the bakers would follow the old price.

The nanbais observed complete strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, demanding upward revision of roti price. They said that prices of wheat flour and gas had recorded significant increase and they could not sell roti at the old official price. —Bureau Report
