Man kills husband of his ex-wife

LAHORE, Sept 1: A 35-year-old man was killed while his wife suffered injuries in a sharp-edged weapon attack on Lakhu Dehr Road in Baghbanpura on Sunday.

Police said suspect Maqsood attacked his ex-wife Shahnaz and her second husband Riaz of Gujjarpura and fled. The injured were taken to hospital where Riaz died. Police said Shahnaz of Baghbanpura got divorce from her first husband Maqsood and married Riaz five months ago. Maqsood nursed a grudge and attacked the couple who were returning home after seeing their relatives.

MAN CLIMBS PYLON: A young man climbed up a pylon in Sherakot area on Sunday in protest against poor financial condition and ‘police attitude.’ Rescue 1122 managed to bring him down after four-hour effort.

Sherakot police said Amjad of Lohari Gate turned up at a shrine for prayer and after some time went up the high tension tower situated on Bund Road.

Rescuers and police rushed to the spot on emergency calls and began efforts to bring the man down. Quoting Amjad, Iqbal Town SP (Operations) Syed Tasueef Haider said he faced some structural damage after the roof of his house collapsed a few months ago.

Similarly, he had given Rs150,000 to his neighbour Nizafat who was not returning amount to him.

Amjad told the media on the spot that his house was burnt in 2005 in which his wife and daughter suffered burns, but no one from the government side came to help him. He also lent some money to an agent for getting visa of a country, but he was deceived.

Amjad sought police help, but in vain. After the rescuers brought the man down with the help of a crane, police took him to the Sherakot police station and registered an attempted suicide case against him. — Staff Reporter
