Power shortfall increases

LAHORE, Aug 26: Demand for electricity has increased with the rise in mercury level owing to a break in rain spells, resulting in resumption of unannounced loadshedding.

The National Transmission and Despatch Company on Monday said electricity shortfall had risen to 3,300 megawatts. The demand had shot up to 16,500MW while production remained 13,200MW on Monday, forcing it to “resort to the load management plan”.

Weather mostly remained hot and humid in the city throughout Monday with clouds appearing in short intervals. Though most parts of the country would remain hot and humid during the next 24 hours, rain/thunderstorm at isolated places in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore and Sargodha had been forecast from Tuesday to Friday.
